Find, download, and delete oversized original image files that WordPress preserves after creating scaled versions.

What does List Original Uploads do?

When a large image is uploaded, WordPress creates a smaller -scaled version for use as the attachment's full-size image and keeps the originally uploaded file. Over time, these preserved originals can consume a considerable amount of disk space.

List Original Uploads adds an Original Uploads page under Media. It finds preserved original images whose width or height exceeds 2560 pixels and displays their preview, filename, dimensions, file size, and attachment ID.

From this page, administrators can:

  • download selected original images as a ZIP archive;
  • delete selected original images in bulk;
  • see the total disk space used by all matching files;
  • adjust the number of entries shown per page through Screen Options; and
  • refresh the cached list after files have changed outside WordPress.

Safety

The plugin only lists files referenced by the attachment's original_image metadata. The active attachment file and all generated image sizes remain untouched.

When an original image is deleted, its metadata entry is removed only after WordPress has successfully deleted the file.

Requirements

  • WordPress 5.3 or later
  • PHP 7.0 or later
  • The manage_options capability to access and use the plugin page

Installation

  1. Download the plugin as a ZIP file.
  2. Upload it under Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin in WordPress.
  3. Activate List Original Uploads.
  4. Open Media > Original Uploads.
