  1. Lightweight Custom Storage: Retains translation relationships, content hashes, and queued jobs in 4 purpose-built tables (wp_wpcalibrate_translations, wp_wpcalibrate_strings, wp_wpcalibrate_string_translations, wp_wpcalibrate_jobs) without corrupting core wp_posts and wp_postmeta.
  2. Deterministic Content Hashing: Uses MD5 fingerprinting across title, slug, excerpt, content, and metadata to instantly detect when source content is updated, flagging target translations as needs_review or outdated.
  3. In-Memory String Cache: Preloads and caches gettext translations per request to completely eliminate N+1 database queries on __ and _e lookups.

Installation

Option 1: WordPress Admin Dashboard (ZIP Upload)

  1. Download the latest wpcalibrate-multilingual-1.0.0.zip from Releases.
  2. In your WordPress admin, navigate to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  3. Select the downloaded ZIP file and click Install Now.
  4. Click Activate Plugin.

Getting Started

  1. Add Languages: Navigate to WPCalibrate → Languages in your WordPress admin. Set your default language (e.g., English) and add your target languages (e.g., Spanish, French, German).
  2. Configure Routing: Choose your URL prefix slug format and save permalinks under Settings → Permalinks.
  3. Configure AI Provider: Go to WPCalibrate → Automatic to enter your API key for DeepL, OpenAI, Gemini, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Translator.
  4. Place Language Switcher: Add the [wpcalibrate_language_switcher] shortcode in your header/footer template, or insert the WPCalibrate Language Switcher block in the Site Editor.
  5. Translate Content: Visit WPCalibrate → Translations to start translating posts, pages, and products using the visual side-by-side editor or trigger batch automatic translation.

Background Queue & WP-Cron

WPCalibrate Multilingual processes heavy translation tasks asynchronously in the background via wp_wpcalibrate_jobs to prevent browser timeouts and server memory exhaustion.

  • Default Interval: Every 5 minutes (or on-demand batch execution)
  • Transient Locking: Utilizes atomic locking (wpcalibrate_multilingual_worker_lock) to eliminate race conditions.
