This is the repository archive. It installs, but the folder name will carry the branch suffix and updates will not flow.

Install straight from GitHub with WP-CLI:

No built-in updater. New versions won't appear under Dashboard → Updates. Install new releases yourself, or let Git Updater track the repository.

Version: 1.6.0

Purpose

YourNews.com has date-based article URLs and purges or changes articles over time. Some URLs continue receiving traffic from Google, social media, newsletters, backlinks, and bots.

This plugin preserves that traffic by redirecting date-based article URLs that now resolve as 404s.

YourNews defaults

Configured for:

  • Post type: article
  • Taxonomy: article_category

Version 1.6.0 changes

  • Map builder now advances through batches instead of repeatedly refreshing the newest 250 articles.
  • Added visible next-build offset.
  • Added Reset Build Offset button.
  • Redirect map now skips a saved current URL if it matches the same 404 path, allowing the saved category URL to be used instead.

Version 1.5.0 changes

  • Added CSV export for the redirect map.
  • CSV export is available under Tools → KO Expired Redirects.
  • Export includes post ID, old path, current URL, category URL, term ID, post type, taxonomy, created date, and updated date.

Version 1.4.0 changes

  • Added a redirect map table.
  • Saves article permalink and selected article_category while the article still exists.
  • Uses the saved map after the article is deleted.
  • Added category selection preference:
    • deepest/most specific category
    • first assigned category
    • top-level parent category
  • Added a “Build / Refresh Redirect Map” admin button.
  • Keeps the admin page under Tools.

Important limitation

The plugin cannot recover categories for articles that were already fully deleted before the redirect map existed.

For those older deleted articles, it will still fall back to /top-stories/.

Going forward, once the map is populated, deleted articles can redirect to their saved article category.

Tools → KO Expired Redirects

  • Redirect recent missing articles: enabled
  • Redirect mode: Current article URL first, then category, then fallback
  • Redirect map: enabled
  • Article category selection: Deepest/most specific category
  • Fallback destination: /top-stories/

After activating v1.4.0, click:

Build / Refresh Redirect Map

This captures current article/category data for existing articles.
