Installation

  1. Download the plugin ZIP
  2. WordPress Admin → Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin
  3. Activate
  4. Go to Settings → AI Chatbot
  5. Paste your Gemini API key
  6. Customize bot name, welcome message, and system prompt
  7. Save — widget appears on all frontend pages immediately

Getting a Free API Key

  1. Go to aistudio.google.com
  2. Sign in with Google
  3. Click "Create API key"
  4. Paste into plugin settings

Free tier: 1,500 messages/day on Gemini 2.0 Flash Lite. No credit card.

Customization

Setting Description
Bot Name Displayed in chat header
Avatar Emoji or 1-2 letters in button and messages
Welcome Message First message shown when chat opens
Bot Instructions System prompt — tell the bot about your business
Primary Color Header and send button color
Position Bottom right or bottom left

Requirements

  • WordPress 5.8+
  • PHP 7.4+
  • Google Gemini API key (free)

Security

  • API key stored server-side in wp_options — never sent to frontend
  • All AJAX requests verified with WordPress nonces
  • Rate limiting: 30 messages per IP per hour
  • All user input sanitized before API calls
  • Conversation history limited to last 10 messages
