This is the repository archive. It installs, but the folder name will carry the branch suffix and updates will not flow.

Install straight from GitHub with WP-CLI:

wp plugin install https://github.com/thewpking/roastpress/archive/refs/heads/main.zip
No built-in updater. New versions won't appear under Dashboard → Updates. Install new releases yourself, or let Git Updater track the repository.

RoastPress score screen

What it does

RoastPress runs about 30 checks from inside your WordPress install, gives you a Roast Score out of 100, and tells you what's wrong in plain, funny English. Every roast comes with the fix and a link to the admin screen where you fix it. The jokes are about the site, never the people behind it.

Area What it checks
Security Outdated core, plugins and themes, PHP version, HTTPS, a user called "admin", debug output in production, the file editor, inactive plugins
SEO "Discourage search engines", plain permalinks, missing or duplicate SEO plugins, homepage title, meta description, H1, image alt text
Speed Homepage response time, HTML size, render-blocking scripts, jQuery, page cache, autoloaded options bloat
Hygiene Too many plugins, default tagline, sample content, unused themes, timezone, site icon, revision pile-up

You get the verdict (from Barely roastable to Crime scene), a score for each area, Fix First (the top three fixes), a dashboard widget and a copy-ready summary to share.

Private by design. Everything runs on your server. The only request RoastPress makes is to your own homepage, once, to time it and read its tags.

Install

  1. Download roastpress.zip.
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip, then activate it.
  3. Go to Tools → RoastPress and press Roast it.

Requires WordPress 6.0+ and PHP 7.4+.

Status

RoastPress 1.0.0 is in the wordpress.org review queue. Once it's approved it will live at wordpress.org/plugins/roastpress, and installs from this repo will be able to update from there.

Add or change checks with the roastpress_results filter before scoring:
