Simple Changelog for PythonAndVBA

WordPress serves published product changelogs. Editing, drafts, release stages, history and AI access live in the central dashboard.

How it works

1. Edit a draft in the API dashboard or through its scoped changelog API/CLI.
2. Publish from the dashboard. The authenticated changelog-snippets mu-plugin verifies the expected content and publication sequence, writes the WordPress snapshot, and purges the page cache.
3. This plugin renders that snapshot in WordPress pages and serves the existing public JSON API to shipped apps.

The API application's data/changelogs.db is the source of truth. WordPress keeps the published copy in scl_product posts and _scl_changelog_content metadata, so pages and apps can still read it while the admin API is unavailable.

Changelog in the WordPress sidebar is a read-only published viewer with product search, a preview, source text, copyable shortcodes and API URLs, and a link to the central editor. It warns if the publishing bridge is missing or a product has not been adopted. It does not claim to check live API synchronization.

WordPress creation, editing, deletion and outbound changelog-to-GitHub sync were removed in version 2.0. Old AJAX write requests return an explicit error. The mu-plugin also enforces ownership at the metadata/deletion layer and refuses legacy repository publishing for adopted products.

Keep existing product IDs. Public responses contain published releases only. The existing parser, JSON response structure, frontend template and assets are preserved in 2.0. No data migration runs on activation or upgrade.

Deployment and updates

Install this plugin at wp-content/plugins/simple-changelog/. The separate changelog-snippets.php mu-plugin is maintained in the API repository under wordpress/mu-plugins/; follow that repository's docs/changelogs.md for its authenticated publishing protocol and recovery procedure. Its secret belongs in wp-config.php, never in either repository.

This repository remains public because the bundled Plugin Update Checker reads GitHub without credentials. Code visibility does not grant publishing access. Making the repository private requires replacing or authenticating that updater first. The removed GitHub content sync is separate from plugin software updates. Old scl_github_sync settings are inert; version 2.0 neither reads nor uses them.

Before a manual deployment, back up the installed files and check for live changes. Deploy the new class before replacing the bootstrap file. Keep the published posts and metadata intact. Roll back by restoring the backed-up plugin files; the separate mu-plugin still prevents editing adopted products.

Offline checks cover public response shapes and filtering, escaped rendering, read-only admin output, missing-bridge/empty states, and refusal of legacy writes. The API repository separately tests authenticated publication, drift, ownership, cache purges and recovery. Check the live public API and an embedded shortcode after deploying.
