Low Resource Photo Uploader
Sequential WordPress photo uploader for low-resource shared hosting
Install
No release zip yet. The repository archive installs, but the folder name will carry the branch suffix and updates will not flow:
wp plugin install https://github.com/sunira/low-resource-photo-uploader/archive/refs/heads/main.zipA lightweight WordPress plugin for uploading photo batches on low-powered shared hosting.
Instead of sending several uploads at once, it uploads and processes exactly one photo at a time. WordPress finishes creating the Media Library attachment and thumbnails before the next photo begins.
Features
- Strictly sequential photo uploads
- Optional 1, 3, or 5 second pause between photos
- Drag-and-drop selection with per-photo and overall progress
- Pause after the current photo
- Continue the queue after an individual failure
- Manually retry failed photos
- Standard WordPress Media Library attachments
- No external services, background jobs, or custom database tables
Installation
- Download the repository as a ZIP.
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
- Upload the ZIP and activate Low Resource Photo Uploader.
- Open Media → Low Resource Uploader.
If WordPress reports that the ZIP does not contain a valid plugin, unzip it once and create a new ZIP containing only the low-resource-photo-uploader folder.
Requirements
- WordPress 5.8 or newer
- PHP 7.4 or newer
- A user account with permission to upload media
How it reduces server load
Each upload is a separate request. The browser waits for that request—including WordPress image metadata and thumbnail generation—to finish before starting the next request. A configurable delay can give especially constrained servers additional breathing room.
The plugin adds a dedicated uploader and does not modify the standard WordPress media uploader.
