Install
This is the repository archive. It installs, but the folder name will carry the branch suffix and updates will not flow.
Install straight from GitHub with WP-CLI:
wp plugin install https://github.com/rinothecoder/adminino/archive/refs/heads/main.zipControls the WordPress admin: the order, names and visibility of the left menu and the admin bar, a custom color scheme, and your logos in the menu and on the login page.
Settings live under Adminino in the left menu, in a side panel with four groups. Visual: Colors, Logos, Admin footer. Navigation: Left Menu Editor, Top Menu Editor. Admin screens: Dashboard, Notices. Content: Post ordering, Duplicate, SVG uploads. Export / import sits at the bottom, and the pages switch without reloading.
The Left Menu Editor can be set per role and per user. A user's own menu goes before the menu of their role, and the role menu goes before the default. Menu items are only hidden, not blocked.
Both admin bar editors can be set per role. Role previews build the native WordPress menu for the selected role, including its capabilities and plugin menus. The frontend admin bar preview uses the homepage; some items vary by page. Saving a role menu preserves settings for items that are currently unavailable to that role.
Features
- Reorder, rename and hide items in the left admin menu
- Reorder, rename and hide items in the top admin bar, including icon-only mode
- Add custom links to the admin bar (URL or admin page)
- Add separators
- Reset each editor back to the WordPress default
- Colors: pick one main color and the plugin builds a full admin color scheme from it (based on the core Modern scheme, so the menu and admin bar stay dark). It's used for every user, and the login page button, links and input focus follow the same color. The generated CSS is cached in
wp-content/uploads/admin-manager/ - Logos: a white logo at the top of the left menu and a dark logo on the login page, each with a width slider and a live preview
- Post ordering: drag and drop posts, pages and custom post types into your own order on their admin lists. All post types by default, or pick specific ones. The order is used on the website too, unless "Only in admin" is ticked. Stored in WordPress's own
menu_orderfield - Side panel with an Overview. Everything new is off by default and loads nothing until switched on
- Admin footer text, dashboard widget clean-up with automatic plugin widget discovery, notices bundled in one collapsible box
- Duplicate link for posts and pages
- SVG uploads (script checked, you choose which user roles may upload)
- Export / import settings between sites (logos excluded)
- English and Dutch interface, picked from the site language
AI / MCP abilities
Adminino registers three optional WordPress abilities when the Abilities API is available (WordPress 6.9+). An existing MCP adapter, such as Novamira, can expose them; Adminino adds no separate MCP server. Every ability requires manage_options.
adminino/get-settings: read effective settings, inheritance and a revision.adminino/list-items: discover native item IDs and parents for the selected scope.adminino/update-settings: preview or apply specific hide/show and label changes, preserving all other choices.
Supported sections are left_menu (role or user), admin_bar (role, admin or front context), and dashboard (global). Dashboard widgets can be shown/hidden and the hiding feature enabled; their titles stay owned by their plugins. Shared custom links can be shown/hidden, but are renamed in the UI. Reordering, custom link creation/deletion, permissions and branding settings are outside this first integration.
Call list-items first, then preview update-settings (defaults to dry_run: true). To apply, pass dry_run: false and the preview's revision as expected_revision. Stale settings, unknown IDs and unsupported scopes are refused before writing. Native discovery uses a single-use internal read request, so the site must allow loopback HTTP requests. Frontend bar discovery uses the homepage.
Languages
The interface is Dutch when the WordPress locale starts with nl, otherwise English. Dutch strings live in languages/nl.php.
To force a language, use the mk_ame_locale filter:
add_filter('mk_ame_locale', fn() => 'en_US');
Updates from GitHub
This repo is public, so updates need no setup. Sites check the latest GitHub release through the built-in updater in includes/updater.php.
No GitHub token or wp-config.php change is needed. Existing MK_GITHUB_TOKEN
settings are ignored by Adminino's public updater. Requests send no site cookies
or credentials. Drafts and prereleases are ignored, and downloads are pinned to
the commit behind the published release.
The plugin row gets a Check for updates link to skip the 6 hour cache.
Releasing a new version
- Bump
Version:in the header ofadmin-menu-manager.php. - Commit and push.
- Create a GitHub Release with a tag higher than the old version, e.g.
v1.3.3. The release notes show up as the changelog in WordPress.
The updater renames GitHub's zip folder back to admin-menu-manager, so the plugin folder stays the same on every site.
Development
Changes are tested on the dev site plugins.testingwithpixels.com before they are pushed and released.
Moving from the snippet version
If the old Fluent Snippets version is still active, the plugin shows a notice and stays inactive. Turn off the snippet and it takes over.

Latest release
1.3.5 adds three optional WordPress/MCP abilities for reading, discovering and patching navigation and dashboard settings. Reviewed changes preserve other settings, respect role/user inheritance and require administrator access. Existing menu previews and automatic dashboard widget discovery remain available to people using the interface.
