Columns Reverse Order Plugin

A WordPress plugin that extends the core columns block with a toggle to reverse the order of columns on non-mobile layouts.

Features

  • Adds a "Reverse column order on desktop" toggle to the core columns block sidebar
  • Only affects desktop and tablet layouts (782px and above)
  • Mobile layout remains unchanged
  • Works similar to the Media & Text block's reverse order functionality

Installation

  1. Upload the columns-reverse-order folder to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory
  2. Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress
  3. That's it! No build process required.

Usage

  1. Add a Columns block to your page/post
  2. Select the Columns block
  3. In the block sidebar, look for the "Column Layout" panel
  4. Toggle "Reverse column order on desktop" to enable/disable the reverse order
  5. The columns will be reversed on desktop and tablet layouts while maintaining normal order on mobile

How it Works

The plugin:

  • Extends the core core/columns block with a custom reverseOrder attribute
  • Adds a toggle control in the block's sidebar settings
  • Applies a has-reverse-order CSS class when the toggle is enabled
  • Uses CSS media queries to reverse the flex direction on desktop/tablet only

Requirements

  • WordPress 5.8 or higher
  • PHP 7.0 or higher
