Install
No release zip yet. The repository archive installs, but the folder name will carry the branch suffix and updates will not flow:
wp plugin install https://github.com/pilotlabllc/mate-connector/archive/refs/heads/main.zipThe WordPress plugin for WPMate: manage your WordPress site from Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP-compatible AI assistant. It covers content, media, plugins, themes, custom CSS, settings, and SEO and security audits, with approvals, revisions and rollback.
- Install: search "Mate Connector" in Plugins → Add New, or download the latest zip from wpmate.ai/mate-connector.zip or the Releases page.
- Connect: create a free account at wpmate.ai, click Create connection code, then paste it under Settings → WPMate.
- Use: add
https://wpmate.ai/mcpas a connector in your AI assistant.
How it works
The plugin registers one REST route, wpmate/v1/execute. WPMate signs each request with HMAC-SHA256 over timestamp.nonce.body, using a secret unique to the site. The plugin rejects any request that is unsigned, older than five minutes or reused, then runs the action as the administrator who connected the site.
Risky actions (publishing, trashing, plugin and theme changes, rollbacks) are approved by the site owner on wpmate.ai before WPMate sends them. Plugins and themes are installed only from WordPress.org, through the core upgraders. Before an update or deletion, the plugin zips the existing folder into wp-content/uploads/wpmate-snapshots/ so it can be restored.
Releasing (maintainers)
- Bump the version in three places, which must match:
Version:andWPMATE_VERSIONinmate-connector.php, andStable tag:inreadme.txt. - Add a
== Changelog ==entry inreadme.txt. - Commit, then tag and push:
git tag 1.0.1 && git push origin main 1.0.1.
The Deploy to WordPress.org workflow checks that the versions match, publishes to the WordPress.org SVN (trunk and tags/x.y.z, plus .wordpress-org/ as directory assets), and attaches a zip to a GitHub release. It needs the repository secrets SVN_USERNAME and SVN_PASSWORD.
