Install

No release zip yet. The repository archive installs, but the folder name will carry the branch suffix and updates will not flow:

wp plugin install https://github.com/nonatech-uk/wp-weather-compact/archive/refs/heads/master.zip

Ships its own WordPress updater (built-in updater), so new versions show up under Dashboard → Updates.

Weather Compact WordPress Plugin

A lightweight WordPress plugin that displays weather in a compact one-line format with click-to-expand detail.

Installation

  1. Copy the weather-compact folder to your WordPress wp-content/plugins/ directory
  2. Log in to WordPress admin
  3. Go to Plugins and activate Weather Compact
  4. Go to Settings → Compact Weather to configure

Configuration

Get an API Key

  1. Sign up at OpenWeatherMap (free)
  2. Go to API Keys in your account
  3. Copy your API key

API Usage

The plugin uses the OpenWeatherMap Current Weather Data API, which is included in the free tier:

  • 1,000 API calls/day (free)
  • With 30-minute caching: ~48 calls/day max

Automatic Updates

The plugin checks GitHub for new releases and shows update notifications in WordPress admin.
