Installation

  1. Upload the ultimate-wp-cache folder to /wp-content/plugins/
  2. Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress
  3. Go to Settings > WP Cache to configure

Configuration

Basic Setup

  1. Enable Page Cache: Turn on full-page caching for maximum speed
  2. Set Cache Lifetime: Recommended 3600 seconds (1 hour)
  3. Enable Minification: Turn on HTML, CSS, and JS minification
  4. Enable Lazy Loading: Improve initial page load times

Advanced Settings

Page Cache

  • Cache lifetime: How long to keep cached pages (in seconds)
  • Excluded URLs: URLs that should never be cached (one per line, regex supported)
  • Query strings: Whether to cache URLs with parameters

Minification

  • HTML minification: Remove whitespace from HTML
  • CSS minification: Minify inline and external CSS
  • JS minification: Minify inline and external JavaScript
  • Combine CSS: Merge multiple CSS files into one
  • Combine JS: Merge multiple JS files into one (may cause conflicts)

Database

  • Auto-optimize: Automatically optimize database tables weekly
  • Transient cleanup: Remove expired transients daily
  • Revision limit: Maximum number of post revisions to keep

CDN

  • CDN URL: Your CDN domain (e.g., https://cdn.example.com)
  • Multiple domains: Use multiple CDN domains for parallel loading

Performance Tips

  1. Start with page caching - This gives the biggest performance boost
  2. Enable minification carefully - Test your site after enabling each option
  3. Combine files with caution - Some themes/plugins may conflict
  4. Use CDN for static assets - Offload images, CSS, and JS to a CDN
  5. Preload cache after clearing - Warm up your cache after major updates

Cache Management

Clearing Cache

  • Clear All Cache: Removes all cached pages and minified files
  • Automatic clearing: Cache is cleared when:
    • Posts are published or updated
    • Comments are added
    • Themes are switched
    • Plugins are activated/deactivated

Admin Bar

Quick access from the WordPress admin bar:

  • Clear all cache
  • Preload cache
  • Access settings

Compatibility

  • WordPress: 5.8 or higher
  • PHP: 7.4 or higher
  • WooCommerce: Automatically excludes cart, checkout, and account pages
  • Multisite: Not tested (use at your own risk)

Troubleshooting

Cache not working

  1. Check if page caching is enabled in settings
  2. Verify cache directory is writable: wp-content/cache/ultimate-wp-cache/
  3. Check if you're logged in (logged-in users see fresh content)
  4. Clear your browser cache

Minification breaking site

  1. Disable "Combine JS" first (common cause of conflicts)
  2. Disable minification options one by one to find the culprit
  3. Add problematic scripts to exclusion list

Database optimization

  • Run manually first to check for issues
  • Enable automatic optimization only if manual run succeeds
  • Large sites may need to increase PHP max_execution_time

System Requirements

  • Server: Apache or Nginx
  • PHP Extensions:
    • zlib (for gzip compression)
    • mbstring (for string operations)
  • File Permissions: Write access to wp-content/cache/
