Description
Smart Accessibility Checker is a lightweight, on-demand accessibility auditing tool for WordPress websites. Built specifically for developers, content editors, and site managers, it lets you trigger manual scans of your pages and posts directly from the WordPress dashboard.
The scanning process runs in the context of the user's browser, utilizing a hidden iframe to fetch and analyze your page DOM with Deque Systems' industry-standard axe-core engine. The results are stored as page meta in the database, avoiding custom database tables and third-party SaaS dependency.
On the front-end, an administrative overlay displays numbered pins on elements that contain WCAG compliance violations. Clicking/hovering on a pin displays a detailed card explaining the rule, severity, and providing instructions for resolving the issue.
Key Features
- On-Demand Audits: Select pages or posts and trigger manual scans.
- No Headless Server / No SaaS Dependency: Scans run safely within your browser.
- Database Meta Storage: Lightweight meta-storage using native WordPress postmeta.
- Front-end Overlay: Visual pins highlight exact elements with accessibility violations.
- Informative Tooltips: Explain rules, impact levels (critical/serious/moderate/minor), code selectors, HTML snippets, and link to Deque University documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this plugin run automated scans on schedules?
No, scanning is entirely on-demand to minimize server resources and respect user intent.
Does this plugin automatically fix accessibility issues?
No. This is an auditing and developer helper tool. It helps you identify, understand, and locate WCAG violations so you can fix them within your theme or page builder. It does not load auto-remediation layers for page visitors.
Can I scan pages protected by passwords or drafts?
Yes. Because the scanning engine runs in your browser, it inherits your administrative session and can scan draft previews and protected elements successfully.
