Installation

  1. Upload the kipdev_optimizer folder to /wp-content/plugins/
  2. Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress
  3. Go to 'Simple Optimizer' in the admin menu

Usage

Basic Configuration

  1. Go to Simple Optimizer > Optimization Controls
  2. Configure options:
    • Image quality (10-100, default: 82)
    • Generate WebP images (recommended)
    • Minify HTML output
    • Enable lazy loading (auto-disabled with Jetpack)
    • Defer JavaScript for faster loads
    • Enable page caching (off by default)
    • Jetpack compatibility (auto-detect and defer)
  3. Save settings

Performance Monitoring

  1. Go to Simple Optimizer > Performance Overview
  2. Click "Run Performance Scan" to measure current load time
  3. Click "Optimize Database" to clean up database
  4. View color-coded results in the Results Dashboard

Image Optimization

  • Automatic: Images are optimized when uploaded
  • Bulk: Use WP-CLI for existing images: wp kipdev optimize-images
  • JPEG: Quality-based compression with WebP generation
  • PNG: Level-based compression with transparency preservation
  • GIF: Not processed (preserved as-is for animations)
  • WebP: 30% smaller than JPEG, generated automatically

Jetpack Compatibility

The plugin automatically detects Jetpack and:

  • Defers image optimization to Jetpack Photon/Image CDN
  • Disables lazy loading if Jetpack's is active
  • Adds preconnect hints for Jetpack CDN domains
  • Works alongside Jetpack without conflicts

Troubleshooting

  • Caching is disabled by default, enable in settings
  • Not active for logged-in users

WebP not working?

  • Verify PHP supports WebP: php -r "echo function_exists('imagewebp') ? 'yes' : 'no';"
  • Check server configuration for WebP MIME types
