Install

Download source zip No release zip yet

This is the repository archive. It installs, but the folder name will carry the branch suffix and updates will not flow.

Install straight from GitHub with WP-CLI:

wp plugin install https://github.com/jarelletane/general-site-audit/archive/refs/heads/main.zip
No built-in updater. New versions won't appear under Dashboard → Updates. Install new releases yourself, or let Git Updater track the repository.

A privacy-conscious WordPress plugin that creates structural scope audits and selective content exports. It is designed for website discovery, quoting, technical audits, migration scoping, and redesign planning.

What it includes

  • WordPress and PHP versions
  • Active theme and plugins
  • Every public post type, its supported features, and status counts
  • Published content metadata, word counts, blocks, shortcodes, and builder signals
  • Navigation menus
  • ACF field-group definitions, when ACF is active
  • Media counts, MIME types, disk usage, and missing-file counts
  • Database size, autoloaded-options size, runtime limits, cron, caching, sidebars, and widgets

The export does not include page bodies, post metadata values, private posts, users, form submissions, credentials, secrets, or media files. Public titles, URLs, and menu links are included, so review the JSON before sharing it.

Selective content export

The separate content-export screen supports JSON for migrations and CSV for editorial review. Administrators can select public content types and statuses, then explicitly choose whether to include bodies, excerpts, taxonomy relationships, common SEO fields, public custom fields, and a featured/attached-media manifest.

Exports are streamed in batches to support larger sites. Media files themselves are not copied; the manifest provides URLs and metadata for migration tooling. Public custom fields are opt-in because even non-protected fields may contain personal or integration data.

Installation

  1. Download general-site-audit.zip from the latest GitHub Actions run or release.
  2. In WordPress, open Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and upload the ZIP.
  3. Activate General Site Audit.
  4. Open Tools → Site Audit & Export.
  5. Download a scope audit or configure a selective content export.

Only WordPress administrators with the manage_options capability can access or generate an audit. Exports are protected by a WordPress nonce and generated on demand without storing a copy on the server.

Requirements

  • WordPress 5.6 or later
  • PHP 7.4 or later

Building

The Build plugin ZIP GitHub Actions workflow validates the PHP file and creates an installable general-site-audit.zip on every push to main, pull request, and manual run. The ZIP is available in the run's Artifacts section.

Pushing a tag beginning with v (for example, v1.0.0) also creates a GitHub release when needed and attaches the ZIP as a release download.
