Lets a Vendor become a Venue and link the Vendors who work there, with invitations, a team section and "Works at" on each member.

Description

In HivePress every Vendor stands alone. There is no way to show that several Vendors work from the same premises, and no way for a place to present its people. This plugin adds that without merging anyone's account: a Venue is an ordinary Vendor profile with one extra tick, and the Vendors who work there are linked to it. Each member keeps their own profile, Listings, Bookings, messages, payments and reviews, and takes all of them along if they leave.

How it works:

  • A Vendor ticks "This profile is a Venue" in their profile form (or you set it for them in the dashboard, if you prefer to decide who is a Venue).
  • The Venue invites Vendors from their profile pages with an Invite to Team button, or a Vendor asks to join from the Venue's page. Nothing is linked until the other side accepts.
  • Both sides manage everything from a new Team page in their account: accept, decline, withdraw, leave or remove, at any time.
  • The Venue's page shows the Listings its members offer there mixed in with the Venue's own, and its team as Vendor cards below them. Both layouts can be changed (see the FAQ).
  • Each member's page shows "Works at" with a link to every Venue they belong to.
  • A Venues block lists Venues as Vendor cards on any page, such as your home page, with the same settings as the HivePress Vendors block.
  • Members get an "Offered At" field in the Listing form, listing only the Venues that have accepted them, so a Listing offered at a Venue appears on the Venue's page and shows "Offered at" on its own page. Listings offered anywhere else simply leave it empty.

Features:

  • No new database tables: team links are stored the way the Favorites extension stores favourites.
  • Three emails, editable under HivePress, Emails: an invitation, a request to join, and a note when either is accepted. One switch on the settings tab turns all three off.
  • A team size limit, counting pending invitations and requests.
  • Every part of the display can be switched off on the settings tab.
  • Unticking the Venue box, deleting a Venue or deleting a member's account ends the links cleanly, and a member who leaves disappears from the Venue's page at once.
  • The plugin never changes who owns a Listing or who is paid for it.
  • Everything is translatable, no assets load from outside your site, and nothing is sent anywhere.
  • Your settings and every team link are kept if you delete the plugin, unless you tick the box that asks for them to be removed.

Installation

  1. Upload the plugin files to the /wp-content/plugins/teams-and-venues-for-hivepress directory, or install the plugin zip through the WordPress admin.
  2. Activate the plugin through the Plugins screen. HivePress must be installed and active.
  3. Go to HivePress, Settings, Teams and Venues, to choose who can create a Venue, set the team size limit and choose what shows where.
  4. Make sure "Enable vendor pages" is ticked under HivePress, Settings, Vendors. Teams show on Vendor pages, which only exist while it is on.

Once installed, the plugin checks for new versions automatically and updates through the normal WordPress Plugins screen, just like a plugin from the WordPress.org directory.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a Vendor become a Venue?

By default, any Vendor can tick "This profile is a Venue" in their profile form. If you would rather decide yourself, choose "Only site administrators can mark a Vendor as a Venue" on the settings tab; the tick then only appears on the Vendor's edit screen in the dashboard.

Where are the Invite to Team and Ask to Join buttons?

In the actions box on a Vendor's page, under the Send Message button. A Venue owner sees Invite to Team on other Vendors' pages; a Vendor sees Ask to Join on Venue pages. Clicking again before the other side answers withdraws it. The buttons only show to signed-in users who can use them, so clients browsing the site never see them.

Can a Vendor belong to more than one Venue?

Yes. "Works at" lists every Venue that has accepted them, and the "Offered At" field in the Listing form lets them choose the Venue for each Listing.

Can a Venue be a member of another Venue?

No. Teams are one level deep, which keeps every page clear about who works where.

How do I show Venues on my home page?

Add the Venues block in the block editor (search for "Venues"), or use the shortcode [hivepress_hptv_venues]. It has the same settings as the HivePress Vendors block: columns, number of Venues, category, sort order and verified Venues only. Any Vendor attribute you have marked as searchable or filterable also appears as a setting, so you can, for example, show only one type of Venue. Only Vendor profiles with the Venue tick are shown.

Does this change payments or Bookings?

No. Every Listing still belongs to the Vendor who created it, so Bookings, payments, payouts, messages and reviews all work exactly as they did.

Can the team go above the Listings, or its Listings in their own section?

By default the Listings team members offer at a Venue share one grid with the Venue's own Listings, and the team appears below them. For a separate "Available Here" section above the Venue's own Listings, choose "In their own section, with a heading" under Team Listings on a Venue's Profile. To put the team straight under the Venue's name, choose "Above the Listings" under Team Section Position. Both are on the Teams and Venues tab under HivePress, Settings.

What happens when someone leaves?

The link ends at once. The member disappears from the Venue's page, the Venue is cleared from their Listings, and "Works at" no longer mentions it. Nobody is emailed about a decline or a departure.

Does deleting the plugin remove the teams?

Not unless you ask it to. Your settings, every team link and every Venue tick are kept by default, even though the WordPress delete screen warns that data will be removed, so a reinstall picks up where you left off. Tick "Delete All Data" on the settings tab first if you want everything gone. Deactivating the plugin never removes anything; while it is deactivated the links appear on the Comments screen as "hp_hptv_member" entries.

Changelog

1.1.3

  • Changed: the icon beside "Works at" on profiles and "Offered at" on Listings now shows at full strength in the theme's icon colour, matching the other icons around it.

1.1.2

  • Adds a Venue tick to Vendor profiles, set by Vendors themselves or by administrators only.
  • Adds Invite to Team and Ask to Join buttons on Vendor pages. Nothing is linked until the other side accepts.
  • Adds a Team page to the account menu to accept, decline, withdraw, leave or remove.
  • Shows a Venue's team and the Listings its members offer there on the Venue's page, and "Works at" on each member's page. The layout of both is set on the settings tab.
  • Adds an "Offered At" field to the Listing form for team members, and "Offered at" on the Listing page.
  • Adds a Venues block and [hivepress_hptv_venues] shortcode that list Venues as Vendor cards on any page.
  • Adds three emails, editable under HivePress, Emails, and an optional team size limit.
  • Settings are under HivePress, Settings, Teams and Venues. Settings, team links and Venue ticks are kept when the plugin is deleted unless "Delete All Data" is ticked first.
