This plugin adds a Filterable Gallery widget to Elementor that lets you display posts from any post type with hierarchical category filtering, live search, video support and AJAX pagination. It was designed to work without a full page reload and to be configurable from within Elementor.

Features

  • Post Type & Taxonomy Selection – Choose which post type to query (e.g. posts, pages, products) and specify the taxonomy slug used for categories (e.g. category, genre). Only public post types are listed.
  • Dynamic Filter Bar – The widget initially shows top‑level terms from the chosen taxonomy. Selecting a term will replace the list with its child terms, allowing you to drill down through categories. An All link resets the filter.
  • Live Search – A search box filters the results as you type. Search queries, term selection and pagination all work together.
  • AJAX Pagination – When there are more posts than fit on one page, numbered pagination links appear. Clicking a page number fetches the next set of posts without reloading.
  • Video Lightbox – If your posts contain a custom field (meta key) with a video URL (e.g. created via ACF), clicking an item opens a modal showing the video along with the post’s title, description and tags.
  • Customisable Cards – Each card shows the post’s featured image (or a placeholder), title and inherits global colours/typography from your theme. (Loop template support is not implemented in this version.)

Installation

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  2. Upload the ZIP file provided (filterable-gallery-elementor-pro-v2.1.3.zip).
  3. Activate the plugin.
  4. Ensure you have Elementor installed and activated. Elementor Pro is not strictly required, but ACF or a similar plugin is needed if you wish to use a video meta field.

Usage

  1. Edit a page with Elementor.
  2. Drag the Filterable Gallery widget (under the General category) into your layout.
  3. In the widget’s Content settings you can configure:
    • Items per page – Number of posts to show per page.
    • Post Type – Choose which post type to query (e.g. post, page, product).
    • Taxonomy Slug – The taxonomy used for categories (default: category). This must be hierarchical for the sub‑term filter to work.
    • Video Meta Key – (Optional) The custom field key storing the video URL. When provided, clicking a card opens a lightbox showing the video and post details.
    • Loop Template ID – (Optional) Placeholder for future support of Elementor loop templates. This version does not use it.
  4. Style the filter bar, items and modal via the widget’s Style tab or through your theme’s CSS.

Creating a Video Meta Field

To display a video in the lightbox, you’ll need a custom field storing the video URL on each post:

  1. Install and activate the Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) plugin (or similar).
  2. Create a field group, assign it to your chosen post type and add a URL field named for example video_url.
  3. In the widget settings, set Video Meta Key to video_url (or your chosen name).
  4. When editing posts, enter a valid video URL (YouTube/Vimeo/MP4). Supported hosts embed via `
