Nano-Renos (WordPress Plugin)

Nano-Renos brings AI-powered renovation visualisations directly into WordPress. Site visitors upload a photo of their space, describe the upgrades they want, add inspiration images, and receive a photorealistic concept that respects the room’s structure. The experience ships as both a shortcode and a Gutenberg block so you can place it anywhere on your site.

Features

  • WordPress-native admin menu with dashboard, Renovation Presets, Material Library, and Settings screens
  • Renovation Presets custom post type with scope metadata (surfaces that may change), material cues, and featured imagery
  • Material Library custom post type plus a “Material Types” taxonomy (flooring, counters, siding, etc.) and dimension/style helpers
  • Gemini settings page (API key, model IDs, rate limiting, optional debug logging)
  • Default image model set to Nano Banana 2 (gemini-3.1-flash-image-preview) with legacy model ID compatibility
  • REST API namespace nano-renos/v1 with nonce validation and transient-based throttling
  • Frontend web app featuring upload validation, preset catalogue, custom brief builder, multi-image inspiration gallery, iterative refinements, before/after slider, downloads, and sharing tools

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.6+
  • PHP 8.1+
  • Google Gemini API key with image-generation access

Installation

  1. Copy the plugin folder to your WordPress instance (wp-content/plugins/nano-renos).
  2. Activate Nano-Renos from the Plugins screen.
  3. Navigate to Nano-Renos -> Settings and add your Gemini credentials and desired rate limit.
  4. Add Renovation Presets under Nano-Renos -> Renovation Presets to seed guided scenarios.
  5. Define materials and types under Nano-Renos -> Material Library (dimensions, style descriptors, taxonomy assignments).

Embedding the Experience

  • Shortcode: [nano_renos]
  • Gutenberg Block: search for “Nano-Renos” in the block inserter.

Assets and REST bootstrapping are automatically enqueued whenever the block or shortcode renders on a page.

REST Endpoints

  • GET /wp-json/nano-renos/v1/presets – returns published presets, materials, and material types for the frontend UI.
  • POST /wp-json/nano-renos/v1/process – accepts roomImage, optional inspirationImages[], a sample JSON payload, and optional iteration JSON. Requires an X-WP-Nonce generated with the wp_rest action.

Responses include the generated image (base64 data URI and/or media library URL) plus dimensions and attachment identifiers when uploads succeed.

Security Notes

  • All admin pages enforce capability checks (manage_options or edit_posts).
  • Meta boxes, uploads, and REST endpoints use nonces to mitigate CSRF.
  • File uploads are limited to 10MB and validated for type (JPEG/PNG/WEBP) and minimum dimensions before processing.
  • Rate limiting relies on WordPress transients (default 10 requests per minute per user/IP).

Development Tips

  • Autoloaded classes live in includes/ and follow the NR_ prefix convention.
  • Frontend assets are plain ES modules/CSS—no build step is required.
  • Keep individual files under ~500 lines; split functionality when you approach the limit.

Roadmap

  • Toast/inline confirmations for long-running renders
  • Optional job queue/cron integration for high-volume sites
  • Accessibility review (focus states, aria attributes)
  • Packaging checklist for distribution or marketplace submission
