Install

The author publishes release zips, so WP-CLI can install straight from GitHub:

wp plugin install https://github.com/faidodaisen/sitessaver/releases/download/v1.4.5/SitesSaver-1.4.5.zip

A free WordPress plugin for full-site backup and migration. No restrictions, no file size limits.

What It Does

  • One-Click Backup — Creates a complete backup of your entire WordPress site (database + all files) as a single ZIP file
  • Easy Restore — Drag and drop a backup ZIP to restore your site, or pick from existing backups
  • Scheduled Backups — Set it and forget it — hourly through monthly automatic backups, several frequencies at once, with email notifications and a server-cron trigger for sites where WP-Cron is disabled
  • Google Drive — Automatically upload backups to your Google Drive for safe cloud storage
  • Backup Manager — Label, download, and manage all your backups from one dashboard
  • Site Migration — Move your WordPress site to a new domain — URLs are automatically updated everywhere, including in serialized data

Requirements

  • PHP 8.1+
  • WordPress 6.0+
  • ZipArchive PHP extension (enabled on most hosts)

FAQ

Where are backups stored? In wp-content/sitessaver-backups/ on your server. Google Drive is optional for cloud copies.

Will it slow down my site? Backups run in the background. Scheduled backups use WP Cron so they don't affect page loads.

My scheduled backups run late, or not at all. WP-Cron only fires when someone visits the site, and does nothing at all if DISABLE_WP_CRON is set in wp-config.php. Open SitesSaver > Schedule and use the Server Cron panel: it gives you a private trigger URL plus ready-made crontab, curl, and WP-CLI lines. If you have no shell access, point any uptime monitor at the URL instead. The URL is safe to call more often than your chosen frequency — SitesSaver replies "not due yet" until a backup is genuinely owed.

Can I run more than one frequency? Yes. Frequency is a set of checkboxes, so Daily plus Monthly (recent restore points alongside a long-term archive) is a valid setup. Each frequency runs on its own independent timer.

Can I migrate to a new domain? Yes. Export from the old site, import on the new one — all URLs (including serialized data) are updated automatically.

Is there a file size limit? No. The plugin handles large sites with chunked processing.
