Dark Palette releases

Native dark mode for modern WordPress block themes.

Dark Palette lets you create a custom dark version of your theme's colour palette.

Instead of replacing stylesheets or inverting colours, it works with your theme's existing theme.json colour presets. Define the dark counterpart for each colour, and Dark Palette remaps those WordPress variables whenever dark mode is active.

Fine-grained control

Dark mode can be disabled for:

• Individual posts and pages
• Selected block templates
• Archive pages
• Search results
• 404 pages
• Password-protected content
• WooCommerce checkout
• WordPress login pages

When dark mode is unavailable, Dark Palette can hide the toggle, show an information message, or display a disabled toggle with an explanation. The message can be configured globally or overridden for an individual post or page.

Languages

Dark Palette follows the WordPress installation language automatically. The plugin includes English, German, French, Italian and Spanish translations for the WordPress admin, block editor and default frontend message.

Live preview

The settings screen includes a lightweight preview that updates as dark counterparts are changed. It is intended as a quick palette check; the actual site remains the final reference because block styles and layouts vary by theme.

Installation

1. Download the release ZIP.
2. In WordPress, open Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
3. Upload and activate Dark Palette.
4. Open Appearance → Dark Palette and configure the palette.
5. Add the Appearance Toggle block in the Site Editor.

Compatibility

Dark Palette was designed with Twenty Twenty-Five in mind and is intended for modern block themes that use theme.json colour presets.

Requires WordPress 6.7 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer.
