The headless companion plugin for WordPress. Bridges WordPress to Astro / Next.js / SvelteKit / any static front-end — surfaces featured-image URLs, normalized SEO with static-host canonical rewrite, per-post stylesheet manifests with a UI-driven blocklist, configurable CORS, headless-mode hardening, and rebuild webhooks. All in one plugin, all open source.
Why this plugin
Most "WordPress as a headless CMS" stacks have five sharp edges that every team rediscovers the hard way:
- Featured images need
?_embed=true— bloats every list payload, slows the build. - Block CSS doesn't render the same — the core
wp-block-librarystylesheet covers stock blocks, but custom blocks, theme block styles, and per-post layout/typography styles vanish from the static output. Plus WooCommerce / Jetpack / Gravatar Enhanced load styles you don't want. - SEO meta is a maze — Yoast, RankMath, or fall back to defaults? Plus the canonical URL points at the WP origin instead of your static front-end, so search engines penalise the static site for duplicate content.
- The WP front-end stays indexable — even when canonical points elsewhere, WP serves the same HTML at its own host, and
/wp-json/wp/v2/usersquietly leaks user-enum. XML-RPC is an old surface most headless sites just want disabled. - WordPress changes don't trigger rebuilds — the editor publishes a post, the static site keeps showing yesterday's version until someone hits a build button manually.
Headless Bridge closes all five in a single plugin. No Composer dependencies at runtime. No npm. No build step. Drop it in wp-content/plugins/ and activate.
For custom post type registration via UI, install the sibling Etherlabz Simple Post Types plugin. Headless Bridge automatically picks up any post type with show_in_rest: true and decorates it with the same featured_image_url and seo fields.
