Install
This is the repository archive. It installs, but the folder name will carry the branch suffix and updates will not flow.
Install straight from GitHub with WP-CLI:
wp plugin install https://github.com/dpfbruce/bl-awards-dinners/archive/refs/heads/main.zipThe single home for all Awards Dinner content. One record drives BOTH the Pre/Live page and the Highlights page — no second copy of the data, and NO third-party plugins.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── WHAT'S IN THE BOX ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── A WordPress plugin (this folder) +, in the parent folder, two HTML widgets: • PRE-awards.html — the "before & during" page (Pre + Live phases) • HIGHLIGHTS-awards.html — the post-event recap (video / gallery / tribute)
The plugin owns the data. It:
- Registers an "Awards Dinners" post type (one post = one year's dinner).
- Provides a native edit screen (plain WordPress metaboxes — Schedule & Phase, Identity, Pre-Event, Live, Lodging, Honorees, Video Program, Photo Gallery, Tribute Book). Everything is stored as ordinary post meta.
- Exposes the record to the front end two ways: • [dpf_gala_data] shortcode → prints window.DPF_GALA_RECORD (current/upcoming dinner) and window.DPF_GALA_RECORDS (all dinners, newest first). • REST: /wp-json/dpf/v1/gala/current | /all | /{id}
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── REQUIREMENTS ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── • WordPress 6.0+, PHP 7.4+ • NOTHING else. This plugin is 100% dependency-free — no Advanced Custom Fields, no page builder, no libraries. (It will use the site's existing "people" post type to pull honoree photos/links when present, and degrades gracefully to the plain name/URL you type when it isn't.)
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── INSTALL ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Uploaded once, then it self-updates from GitHub (DPFBruce/bl-awards-dinners) just like (BL) Videos and (BL) Slide Editor — WordPress shows "Update now" on the Plugins page whenever a new Release is published (via the "Release (BL) Awards Dinners.command" launcher).
First install: WP Admin → Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin → choose the zip → Activate. You'll see a new "Awards Dinners" menu.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── GET THE DATA IN ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Awards Dinners → Import / Sync → Run import / sync. Creates one record per year from the bundled archive (2021–2026, published) plus a 2027 draft mock. Create-only by default — it never overwrites a record you have already edited, and never touches the live /awards-dinner-highlights/ page.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── PUT IT ON THE PAGES ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── On the PRE/LIVE page (Elementor):
- Add a "Shortcode" widget at the very top: [dpf_gala_data scope="current"]
- Below it, add an "HTML" widget and paste PRE-awards.html.
- In that HTML, set HIGHLIGHTS_PAGE_URL to your Highlights page's URL.
On the HIGHLIGHTS page (Elementor):
- Add a "Shortcode" widget at the very top: [dpf_gala_data]
- Below it, add an "HTML" widget and paste HIGHLIGHTS-awards.html.
The shortcode MUST sit above the HTML widget so the data global exists first. (Each widget also falls back to the REST endpoint, then a baked-in demo record.)
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
HOW DATA IS STORED (for developers)
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
• Scalars → post meta under the field's own key (event_date_iso, venue, …).
• honorees → one JSON post-meta value 'honorees' (award blocks with nested
recipients[] + presenters[], each {person,name,url}; award_term = the
chosen award taxonomy term id; award_label = display override).
• videos → one JSON post-meta value 'videos'.
• gallery → 'gallery_ids' (JSON attachment-id array) + 'gallery_advanced'
(bulk JSON) + 'gallery_captions_json' (Caption-Tagger map).
The award taxonomy term's DESCRIPTION is the award definition shown on the site.
See includes/record.php for the exact record shape both widgets consume.
