Player Piano MIDI Inspector (WordPress Plugin)

WordPress plugin MVP for async MIDI upload + deep inspection focused on player-piano prep.

What it does

  • Asynchronous upload (admin-ajax.php) for .mid/.midi/.kar.
  • Deep MIDI parsing (header/tracks/events/meta/tempo/channel/controller/program).
  • Player-piano focused derived analysis:
    • likely piano channel + confidence
    • accompaniment dependency
    • pedal behavior
    • range/density/polyphony/retrigger signals
    • metadata quality and DOS 8.3 filename checks
  • Compatibility scoring and verdict:
    • Plays correctly
    • Plays with limitations
    • Needs conversion
    • Technically compatible but poorly prepared
    • Not suitable for this system
  • Suggested repair actions for common issues.
  • Browser preview player modes:
    • Full preview
    • Piano mechanism preview
    • Piano + accompaniment preview
    • Visual piano-roll canvas with playhead, tempo, and zoom

Install

  1. Copy player-piano-midi-inspector/ into your WordPress wp-content/plugins/.
  2. Activate Player Piano MIDI Inspector in WordPress admin.
  3. Add shortcode to a page/post:
[ppmi_inspector]

Notes

  • This version is inspection-first (no destructive conversion actions yet).
  • The preview player uses @tonejs/midi for parsing and smplr sampled piano playback.
  • Analyzer parses MIDI binary directly in PHP and does not require external MIDI packages.
