How It Works

1. Shopper adds items to their cart and starts filling in checkout
2. As soon as they type their email address, the plugin silently saves their cart
3. If they leave without completing the order, the plugin schedules 3 recovery emails
4. Each email contains a link that restores their exact cart with one click
5. When the shopper completes their order, all pending recovery emails are cancelled automatically and the revenue is attributed on the dashboard

Template Customization

Override any email template without touching plugin files. Copy the template from wp-content/plugins/woo-smart-recovery/templates/ to wp-content/themes/your-theme/woo-smart-recovery/ and edit freely. Your file takes priority and survives plugin updates.

Installation

1. Upload the woo-smart-recovery folder to /wp-content/plugins/
2. Activate the plugin through the Plugins menu in WordPress
3. Go to WooCommerce > Recovery Suite to see the dashboard
4. Go to WooCommerce > Recovery Settings to configure the From name, From email, and sequence timing

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this require WooCommerce?

Yes. WooCommerce 7.0 or higher must be installed and active. The plugin will show an admin notice and disable itself if WooCommerce is not found.

Will it send emails if I am testing locally?

Recovery emails are sent via WordPress's built-in wp_mail() function. On local development environments, install a mail-catching plugin such as WP Mail Log (free, WordPress.org) or configure a local SMTP tool like MailHog. WP Cron also only fires when someone visits the site on local installs — use WP-CLI (wp cron event run wsr_send_recovery_message) to trigger sending manually.

How do I stop it from emailing a specific customer?

Every recovery email contains an Unsubscribe link. Clicking it immediately cancels all pending recovery emails for that address and prevents future captures. The customer's data can also be erased via Tools > Privacy > Erase Personal Data.

Does this store customer data?

Yes. Email addresses, cart contents (product IDs, names, prices), and cart totals are stored in two custom database tables (wp_wsr_abandoned_carts and wp_wsr_recovery_log). Data is deleted automatically after the retention period you configure (default: 90 days). The plugin is also integrated with the WordPress personal data exporter and eraser.

How do I customize the email templates?

Copy the template file from wp-content/plugins/woo-smart-recovery/templates/ to wp-content/themes/your-theme/woo-smart-recovery/ and edit it. The plugin checks for a theme override before loading its default.

Is it compatible with WooCommerce HPOS?

Yes. The plugin explicitly declares compatibility with WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage (custom order tables).

What happens when a customer completes their order?

All pending recovery emails for that email address are cancelled immediately, the cart record is marked as "recovered", and the order revenue is recorded against the last sent message on the dashboard.

Third-Party Services

The free version of this plugin does not connect to any external services. All data stays on your WordPress server.

The Pro version (distributed separately) can optionally connect to the following third-party services. These connections are only made when the store owner explicitly enters API credentials in the settings page:
