Pro migration from Joomla to WordPress + WooCommerce. Users (with passwords), articles, categories, tags, media, VirtueMart & HikaShop products/orders/reviews, navigation menus, SEO fields, custom fields, and an automatic redirect map — with background processing and rollback.

Description

J2W Pro Migration moves a Joomla site into WordPress and WooCommerce in stages, with full control over what gets imported and how.

What it migrates:

  • Users & Authors — Joomla users with passwords preserved (bcrypt hashes supported). Maps Joomla user types to WordPress roles.
  • Articles & Content — Posts or pages from #__content, with introtext/fulltext handling, category mapping (Joomla sections/categories → WP categories), tags from meta keywords, and featured image extraction.
  • Categories — Full category tree with parent-child relationships preserved.
  • Media & Images — Download and import into the WordPress Media Library. Supports Joomla intro/fulltext images, images embedded in content, and external media URLs. Handles accent removal in filenames, optional thumbnail skip, and duplicate detection.
  • VirtueMart Products → WooCommerce — Products, categories, pricing, SKU, stock status. Extended product data available for review.
  • HikaShop Products → WooCommerce — Products, categories, pricing, reference/SKU, stock status.
  • Orders — VirtueMart and HikaShop orders imported as WooCommerce order posts with customer links, totals, and line items.
  • Product Reviews — VirtueMart and HikaShop reviews imported as WooCommerce product reviews with ratings.
  • Navigation Menus — Joomla menus recreated as WordPress navigation menus with items resolved to imported posts where possible.
  • SEO & Redirects — Meta description and meta keywords migrated to post meta. An automatic redirect map is generated from all imported content (old Joomla URLs → new WordPress permalinks), ready to serve as 301 redirects.
  • Custom Fields — Joomla 3.7+ custom fields (#__content jcfields) migrated to WordPress post meta or ACF if active.
  • Background Mode — For large sites, chunked AJAX processing prevents PHP timeouts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can WordPress connect to the Joomla database if they're on different hosts?

Yes, but the WordPress server must be allowed to connect remotely to the Joomla database. On cPanel hosts, enable "Remote MySQL" and add the WordPress server's IP. Alternatively, export the Joomla database to SQL and import it into the same database as WordPress, then use WordPress credentials.

The migration runs out of memory or times out

Increase WP_MEMORY_LIMIT in wp-config.php to at least 512M. For large sites, enable "Background mode" in Settings — this processes in AJAX chunks and won't time out.

Where can I find the Joomla table prefix?

In Joomla's configuration.php file, look for $dbprefix. Common values: jos_, j3_, j4_.

Does this preserve SEO?

Yes. The plugin generates a redirect map from old Joomla URLs to new WordPress URLs. After migration, serve these redirects (via a plugin like Redirection, or your server config) as 301s to preserve link equity. Meta descriptions and keywords are also migrated to post meta.

What WooCommerce versions are supported?

WooCommerce 3.0+ on WordPress 5.5+. Product, order, and review migration requires WooCommerce to be active.
