Install

Download enable-whatsapp-protocol-urls.zip From the v20250316-cedf6e5 release on GitHub, Mar 16, 2025

Upload it under Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin, then activate.

Install straight from GitHub with WP-CLI:

wp plugin install https://github.com/bikebearlabs/enable-whatsapp-protocol-urls/releases/download/v20250316-cedf6e5/enable-whatsapp-protocol-urls.zip

No built-in updater. New versions won't appear under Dashboard → Updates. Install new releases yourself, or let Git Updater track the repository.

WordPress plugin to allow whatsapp:// URLs in WordPress by whitelisting it from sanitization.

Installation

Download the latest release of the plugin & install it on your WordPress site.

Overview

This plugin adds the whatsapp:// protocol to the list of allowed protocols in WordPress. This fixes the issue where whatsapp:// URLs are stripped out by WordPress when saving a post.

Usage

It works out of the box. No configuration needed.
