Install
This is the repository archive. It installs, but the folder name will carry the branch suffix and updates will not flow.
Install straight from GitHub with WP-CLI:
wp plugin install https://github.com/atakanatamert/stillindexed-wp/archive/refs/heads/main.zipShows in wp-admin whether your homepage is indexable: robots.txt blocks, X-Robots-Tag, meta robots and canonical. Read-only, checked daily.
Description
Stillindexed — Indexability Monitor answers one question inside wp-admin: can Google index your homepage right now?
Once a day, and once when the plugin is activated, it fetches your own homepage and robots.txt from this server and shows a status table under Tools → Stillindexed:
- Indexable: yes or no
- Whether robots.txt blocks the homepage, and the Disallow rules it found
- Whether an
X-Robots-Tagheader is present, and its value - The meta robots value, if the homepage sends one
- Whether a canonical link is present, and where it points
- The homepage HTTP status
It is read-only. It changes no content, no headers and no files. The only setting is enable or disable.
After an update, it asks for a fresh outside look. When a plugin, theme or core update completes, or the site address changes, the plugin sends a fire-and-forget request to the public stillindexed.com checker for your homepage and shows a one-time admin notice: deploys are when noindex accidents happen.
What this plugin cannot see is the point of the paid service. A plugin on the same server cannot tell you the server is down, DNS has failed, or the domain or SSL certificate is about to expire, and it only reads the homepage once a day. Continuous external monitoring at stillindexed.com checks the pages you choose every 15 to 30 minutes from outside, watches robots.txt, sitemaps, certificates and domain expiry, and alerts you on Telegram and email when something SEO-critical changes.
External services
This plugin connects to one external service, operated by the plugin author:
- Service: the public indexability checker at
api.stillindexed.com(POST /v1/tools/check), part of stillindexed.com. - What is sent: your site's home URL (
home_url( '/' )) and nothing else — no user data, no post content, no credentials. - When: once when a plugin, theme or core update completes, and once when the site address (
siteurl/home) changes. The request is non-blocking ("fire-and-forget") and never delays an update. The daily check itself runs entirely on your server and sends nothing. - Why: an update is the moment a staging
noindexor a rewritten robots.txt most often reaches production, so the plugin asks the outside checker to take a fresh look at the homepage from off-server at exactly that moment, and shows a one-time admin notice. - Terms and privacy: using the checker is covered by the stillindexed.com terms of service and privacy policy. Disabling the plugin's check (Tools → Stillindexed) also stops these requests.
Installation
- Upload the
stillindexedfolder to/wp-content/plugins/, or install the plugin through the WordPress plugins screen. - Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' screen in WordPress.
- Open Tools → Stillindexed to see the first reading. It refreshes daily via wp-cron.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this plugin change anything on my site?
No. It only fetches your homepage and robots.txt and stores the reading. It writes no files, adds no output to the front end, and sends no data anywhere except the single public-checker request after an update completes.
Why only the homepage, and only once a day?
Because that is what a free plugin on your own server can honestly do. Watching every important page every few minutes, from outside the server, is the paid service at stillindexed.com. This plugin is the check you can see in wp-admin; the service is the watch that also works when the server does not.
What happens after I update a plugin, theme, or WordPress core?
The plugin asks the public stillindexed.com checker to fetch your homepage, without blocking the update, and shows a one-time admin notice linking to continuous monitoring. Updates are the moment a staging noindex or a rewritten robots.txt most often reaches production.
Does it work on multisite?
It activates per site and checks that site's homepage. Network activation is not supported in 0.1.0.
Does it need an account?
No, not for the plugin itself: no signup, no API key, and no settings beyond enable or disable. The daily homepage check runs on your own server. The only outbound call is the post-update request to the public checker, which is also ungated. Continuous external monitoring at stillindexed.com — the paid part — starts with a free trial if you want it, but the plugin works fully without one.
