Quick Start

Create Your First Tool (5 minutes)

Step 1: Create Tool Entry (WordPress Admin)

  1. Go to Business Tools → Add New
  2. Fill in:
    • Title: ROI Calculator
    • Tool Slug: roi-calculator
    • Tool Type: Calculator
    • Tier Required: Free
    • Category: Financial
    • Tool Icon: dashicons-chart-line
    • Tool Color: #10b981
  3. Click Publish

Step 2: Create Tool Class

Create file: tools/financial/ROICalculator.php

<?php
namespace BTD\Tools\Financial;

use BTD\Tools\Core\Calculator;

class ROICalculator extends Calculator {

    public function __construct() {
        $this->slug = 'roi-calculator';
        $this->name = 'ROI Calculator';
        $this->tier = 'free';

        $this->inputs = [
            'investment' => [
                'label' => 'Initial Investment ($)',
                'type' => 'number',
                'required' => true,
            ],
            'final_value' => [
                'label' => 'Final Value ($)',
                'type' => 'number',
                'required' => true,
            ],
            'time_period' => [
                'label' => 'Time Period (months)',
                'type' => 'integer',
                'required' => true,
            ],
        ];

        $this->outputs = [
            'roi_percent' => [
                'label' => 'ROI Percentage',
                'format' => 'percentage',
                'highlight' => true,
            ],
            'profit' => [
                'label' => 'Total Profit',
                'format' => 'currency',
            ],
        ];

        $this->registerAjaxHandlers();
        $this->registerShortcode();
    }

    protected function calculate($inputs) {
        $investment = floatval($inputs['investment']);
        $final_value = floatval($inputs['final_value']);
        $time_period = intval($inputs['time_period']);

        $profit = $final_value - $investment;
        $roi_percent = ($profit / $investment) * 100;

        return [
            'roi_percent' => round($roi_percent, 2),
            'profit' => round($profit, 2),
        ];
    }

    // AJAX handlers (see full example in docs)
    private function registerAjaxHandlers() { /* ... */ }
    public function ajaxHandler() { /* ... */ }

    // Shortcode (see full example in docs)
    private function registerShortcode() { /* ... */ }
    public function shortcode($atts) { /* ... */ }
}

new ROICalculator();

Step 3: Register Tool

Add to btd-tools.php:

require_once BTD_PLUGIN_DIR . 'tools/financial/ROICalculator.php';

Step 4: Use Tool

Add shortcode to any page:

[btd_roi_calculator]

That's it! Your first tool is live.

🛠 Creating Tools

BTD provides four base classes for different tool types:

1. Calculator (Mathematical Tools)

use BTD\Tools\Core\Calculator;

class MyCalculator extends Calculator {
    protected function calculate($inputs) {
        // Your calculation logic
        return ['result' => $value];
    }
}

Best for: ROI calculators, profit margins, break-even analysis, financial modeling

2. AI Tool (AI-Powered Generation)

use BTD\Tools\Core\AITool;

class MyAITool extends AITool {
    protected function buildPrompt($inputs) {
        return "Generate content for: " . $inputs['topic'];
    }
}

Best for: Content generators, email writers, business plan creators, copywriting tools

3. Generator (Document/Template Tools)

use BTD\Tools\Core\Generator;

class MyGenerator extends Generator {
    protected $template = 'Your template with {{placeholders}}';

    protected $placeholders = [
        'name' => 'company_name',
        'date' => function($inputs) {
            return date('Y-m-d');
        }
    ];
}

Best for: Invoice generators, contract templates, document builders

4. Custom Tool (Advanced)

use BTD\Tools\Core\Tool;

class MyCustomTool extends Tool {
    public function renderForm() { /* ... */ }
    public function process($inputs) { /* ... */ }
    public function renderResults($results) { /* ... */ }
}

Best for: Anything that doesn't fit the above patterns

Documentation

Known Issues

  • PDF export requires additional library (mPDF or TCPDF)
  • AI tools require API keys and have associated costs
  • Team workspaces are Pro tier only
  • Shared hosting may limit concurrent AI requests

See Issues for complete list.
