Development

  1. Clone the repository into wp-content/plugins/.
  2. Install dependencies or tooling as needed (no build step required).
  3. Activate Working with Image Converter from the WordPress dashboard.
  4. Visit the Image Converter menu item to configure options and run conversions.

Manual testing

After converting an attachment:

  1. Open the post, page, or product that previously used the original asset as its featured image and verify that the featured image now points to the generated WebP attachment (inspect the media details to confirm the MIME type is image/webp).
  2. For WooCommerce products, edit a product where the image belonged to the gallery and ensure every gallery slot now references the WebP attachment while the original file remains listed in the Media Library.
  3. Browse the edited post, page, or product on the front end (checking long and short product descriptions when applicable) to confirm the inline images resolve to WebP URLs without broken markup.
  4. Open the Media Library details for both attachments: the original asset should still exist, and the WebP version should carry over the same alternative text.

Translations

The plugin ships with a template (.pot) file and an Italian translation (it_IT.po). You can generate additional locales by copying the template and translating the strings.
