Admin-managed microbial database (Bacteria + Phage banks) for WordPress. Display anywhere with:

[phagebiome_database]

Features

  • Two record collections: Bacteria (9 display columns) and Phages (8 display columns)
  • Tabs with counts, search (250 ms debounce), source filter dropdown, sortable columns, pagination, mobile cards
  • Works with JavaScript disabled (server-rendered tabs, sort links, pagination, search form)
  • Per-collection one-click Import of bundled data (74 bacteria + 21 phages) and Remove-imported cleanup
  • Automatic display order per collection (atomic, gap-based, manual override + reset)
  • Display settings: default tab, records per page (5–100), default sort field/direction per tab, interface text
  • Dedicated capabilities + roles so editors cannot touch posts/pages
  • No archive/detail pages, no auto-created pages, no Elementor dependency

Install

  1. Upload phagebiome-database.zip via Plugins → Add New → Upload, Activate.
  2. Go to Database → Import Bacteria / Import Phages → Import.
  3. Add [phagebiome_database] to any page (Shortcode block or Elementor Shortcode widget).

Test checklist

  • Install on a fresh site, import both collections, verify counts 74 / 21 and record #s.
  • Create a page with [phagebiome_database]; test tabs, #bacteria / #phages deep links, back/forward.
  • Search aureus, filter MDR / Sequenced genome, sort each column both directions, check blanks sort last.
  • Change page 1 → 2 → check URL params pbd1_*; second shortcode on the same page uses pbd2_*.
  • Disable JavaScript: tabs, sort, search, pagination and reset still work.
  • Narrow to 390 px: table becomes cards, mobile sort control appears.
  • Add a new Bacterium manually → assigned next display order; set manual order 4.5 → respected; Reset to automatic → back to sequence.
  • Remove-imported removes only imported rows; manual rows survive; trashed import keys block re-import.
  • Check browser console: zero errors.
